St Matthew Passion
Universal acclaim
for Arsys Bourgogne 's magnificent tour !

Arsys Bourgogne has just completed a splendid tour performing Bach's St Matthew Passion with Concerto Koln and an international group of soloists led by "arch-evangelist" Christoph Pregardien.

Some of France's most prestigious concert halls were booked out for these concerts:  more than 6,500 people flocked to the five concerts at the Metz Arsenal;  St Roch Church in Paris (where we had to turn away 350 people!);  the Dijon and Lyon Auditoriums;  and the Concertgebouw in Bruges, a magnificent new concert hall worthy of the its cousin in Amsterdam.

It is worth taking a moment to look at the impact of this tour in terms of Arsys Bourgogne 's profile:  more than 30 newspaper articles, not counting mere diary entries;  two weeks of advertising in the Metro in Paris ;  and a dozen radio interviews with Pierre Cao, with musical extracts and details of the concerts.  We attracted the attention of many new French media entities - La Tribune, Radio RCF, Le Pèlerin, La Vie, Télérama, Le Figaroscope, Le Point, Le Quotidien du Médecin, Le Parisien - and were of course covered by both the musical press - Diapason, Lettre du Musicien, Classica Répertoire, etc - and the regional press.

The enthusiasm excited by Arsys Bourgogne 's performance is clear from the elegiac headlines it inspired, this during a Holy Week already well supplied with Passion music :

"Under Pierre Cao's baton, Arsys Bourgogne literally set the Passion on fire."

"In just a few years Arsys  Bourgogne has had a radical impact upon the French choral scene."

"Pierre Cao and his team gave us a sumptuously contemplative reading of Bach's St Matthew Passion."

"Breathing Bach from the depths of his being, Cao shapes words and music as if on a pilgrimage of perfection, burning with an inner fire which he transmits to his fervent performers."

"The Lyon Auditorium was engulfed by a tidal wave:  we emerged enriched, transported, serene and deeply moved !"

"All the ingredients were gathered together - vocal perfection, homogeneity, natural phrasing !"

" Arsys Bourgogne was electrifying, a mass of scintillating colour and sonorous richness."

"We were struck as if by lightening."
