It was this recording, hailed as an example by the musical press, that Arsys Bourgogne earned its reputation among the small élite of professional European vocal ensembles. Traditionally, these six motets, all dating from Bach’s Leipzig period, are performed a capella, or with an instrumental ensemble playing colla parte (ie, doubling the vocal parts). In this recording, with the remarkable ensemble Les Basses Réunies, Pierre Cao gives us a version ‘of unusual intelligence, where the clarity of the text is equalled only by the choir, whose perfect tuning and stylistic flexibillity amaze the listener’.
